Big Bear, Ca April 4, 2011 4:00 pm – The annual Big Bear Farmers Market will be opening this year on April 12. Held at the Big Bear Lake Convention Center on the corner of Division Drive and Big Bear Boulevard each Tuesday from early April through October, the market allows Big Bear residents to purchase freshly picked fruits, vegetables, and flowers from local farmers, without having to travel down the hill. All farm vendors at the market are required to sell their own produce from farms within a 300 mile radius. Also part of the market are retail, craft, and baked goods vendors. This year 9 new vendors have registered to sell at the market, with the potential of more to be added as the weather warms up. Kerri Santoro, organizer of both the Big Bear and High Desert Farmers markets, says she is hoping to expand the food court at the market this season. Several of the current food vendors have expanded their menus to include a continental breakfast, salads, and sandwiches. The Big Bear Farmer’s Market is open each Tuesday from 8:30 am until 1:00 pm beginning April 12. More information, including vendor requirements, is on the market’s website at highdesertfarmersmarket.com.
