April 23 Code Enforcement Sweep Results in the Towing of 47 Vehicles, Boats and Trailers from Big Bear City

Yesterday’s Code Enforcement sweep through Big Bear City resulted in the towing of 47 vehicles, boats and trailers, all of them in violation of county and vehicle codes. The Problem Oriented Policing, or POP, project, as prompted by numerous complaints by residents, was conducted by deputies of the Big Bear Sheriff’s Station, officers of the California Highway Patrol, and officials from San Bernardino County Code Enforcement. In a statement from the Big Bear Sheriff’s Station, it is noted that they take complaints for all law enforcement matters seriously. In addition to responding to calls for service for in-progress criminal matters, the Sheriff’s Department investigates reports of abandoned and unregistered vehicles, unsightly refuse in yards, and other county code violations. It is the goal of the Big Bear Sheriff’s Station to assist those homeowners who maintain their properties to meet current code requirements from decreased property values associated with abandoned vehicles and debris in neighboring yards. The statement further reads that although the station has received a few complaints associated with the sweep, a substantial amount of calls from homeowners within the sweep area complimenting the efforts of law enforcement officials have also been received. This is the second collaborative Code Enforcement sweep this year. Notice of future sweeps will be announced as dates are scheduled in order to give residents ample time to ensure their vehicles and properties are not in violation.
