Alleged Bar Fights Result in Attempted Murder Charges for Two East Valley Residents

Big Bear Lake, CA — The Big Bear Sheriff’s Station has two suspects in custody, based on charges of attempted murder stemming from incidents outside two Village bars on Monday. The suspects have been identified as 28-year-old Christopher Nastrom of Big Bear City and 19-year-old Randy Batts of Sugarloaf; the victims in the May 24 incident are named as 53-year-old Manuel Munoz of Angelus Oaks and 42-year-old Erik Hammud of Big Bear City.
Per the press release, issued today: “On May 24, 2010 at approximately 1:23pm, deputies of the Big Bear Sheriff’s Station responded to a call for service of a fight and stabbing at Chad’s Place in Big Bear Lake. Two subjects in separate vehicles were attempting to leave as deputies arrived on scene. The vehicles were detained and the drivers were interviewed.
Deputies determined that a fight involving several subjects had occurred in front of Murray’s Saloon earlier in the day. A second fight occurred in the parking lot behind Chad’s Place approximately 45 minutes later, which resulted in two male adults being stabbed.
Victim Munoz was stabbed on his right side, causing a laceration to his liver. He was taken to Bear Valley Community Hospital and transferred to Loma Linda Medical Center at approximately 4pm for treatment and observation. Victim Hammud sustained a stab wound to the palm of his hand and refused medical treatment at the scene. Investigation of this matter is ongoing.
Suspect Christopher Nastrom was booked into the Big Bear Jail on felony charges of attempted murder and possession of a controlled substance. Nastrom is being held in custody in lieu of $1,025,000 bail. Suspect Randy Batts was booked into the Big Bear Jail on felony charges of attempted murder. Bail for Batts was set at $1,000,000. Arraignment hearings for both suspects are scheduled for May 26, 2010 at the San Bernardino County Superior Court.”
