Big Bear High School students will be presented with a special assembly tomorrow during their English class periods. As part of the Bear Valley Unified School District’s settlement with the American Civil Liberties Union, stemming from a freedom of speech issue just prior to the November 2008 election, BBHS students will attend a presentation given not by the ACLU, but the Anti-Defamation League’s A World of Difference Institute. The facilitators, Jenny Betz and Michelle Deutchman of the Anti-Defamation League, will address the First Amendment, and corresponding case studies, and topics outlined as Connecting Free Speech to Community Values and Building Respect. The program at BBHS on Wednesday will also allow for a student Q&A period. Specifics of the Anti-Defamation League’s presentation will be going home with each Big Bear High School student today, should parents have any questions on tomorrow’s program.
