Big Bear Lake, CA, April 15, 2015 – At Monday’s Special Board Meeting of the Bear Valley Unified School District, a presentation was made by Ron Peavy and Phil Hamilton, co-chairs for the 7-11 Committee, a district advisory group consisting of community members which was formed to evaluate and make recommendations to the Board regarding facilities. Due to declining enrollment and aging facilities, many discussions have surrounded the issue of whether to close a school site or other district property. The recommendation of the 7-11 Committee included multiple options for the Board to consider in their evaluation including maintaining the current site configurations or consolidating schools and selling or leasing a school property. Ultimately, the Board agreed that there will be no changes regarding the closure of a school or other school facility for the 2015-2016 school year. Additionally, the Board will continue the discussion to review enrollment data at regular intervals over the next year during scheduled Board Workshop Meetings which are open to the public for input.
