Big Bear Valley, CA, March 20, 2014 – If you’ve spotted a purple piggy bank in a local business, that’s a fundraising tool for the California-Hawaii Elks Major Project, Inc (CHEMPI), best known for its support of children with disabilities. Twenty-two business owners have put out the collection banks, and more are being sought to support this important charity.
This program was designed in 1950 to serve people in need in rural areas. It funds 32 professionals such as preschool vision screeners, speech-language Pathologists, and Physical Therapists, to help disabled children when no other organizations can or will. One advantage of preschool vision screening is that it can catch early signs of “lazy eye” while it can still be corrected.
Aside from money dropped in the purple pigs around town, tax-deductible donations are welcome from corporations, organizations or service groups. There are also programs for Bequests and Living Trusts.
