After an action-packed three-and-a-half-day school week, all is well at Big Bear High School. This morning’s prom assembly in Our House was full of Bears’ spirit, and the red, black and white. Prior to the introduction of the prom court in their formal wear, BBHS students reviewed the responsibility pledge from this week’s “Every 15 Minutes” activities, which the Big Bear Sheriff’s Station had presented to students to remind them of the consequences of drinking and driving. Tiffany Swantek of the Sheriff’s Station thanked students for their attention this week, and noted that the “Every 15 Minutes” program would return in a couple years, before adding, “Have fun at prom, but we want you to come home safely.” BBHS athletes were also recognized for having been named MVPs; those students are varsity baseball player Dustin Blauer, golfer Scott Reynolds, defensive varsity softball player Janae LaPierre and offensive MVP varsity softball player Brittney Holden. To the cheers of their classmates, the prom court of senior girls Lindsay Cunningham, Sarah Fagan, Allix Miller, Kasey Judge and Andi Ferraud, and senior boys Scott Reynolds, Preston Carlisle, Miles Fulton, Nick Walker and Cody Morris were introduced by Mr. Fipps. The Bears wrapped their pep assembly with the age-old competition for the spirit stick—though no winner was named, it was close between the Class of 2009 and the juniors of 2010, prompting Principal Mike Ghelber to say, “You guys rock! This is at a new level.”
Update: Congratulations to Nick Walker and Andi Ferraud, named BBHS’s Prom King and Queen on Saturday.
