Big Bear, CA, June 12, 2012, 3:00pm – Big Bear High School unveiled the new digital marquee on Monday. The marquee will enable the high school to highlight the school’s notifications and accomplishments. The marquee project was implemented three years ago, at the request of the school’s Principal, Mike Ghelber, when the old marquee was blown down and destroyed in a winter storm. Malissa Parker, the founder of Parents in Support of Academics, known as PSA, spearheaded the project with a series of fundraisers, most notably, the annual Tax Day Soiree and Auction. PSA’s fundraising activities for the new marquee took 3 years with another year to work out the details and specifications for its installation with key school district personnel. Parents in Support of Academics is a parent oriented booster group that has assisted Big Bear High School with other projects including beautification of the quad area as well as contributing financially to a student Senior Project and the Principal’s Fund. Additionally, the ASB, Associated Student Body, at the high school assisted PSA at the auctions and were recognized at the ceremony by Mr. Ghelber. The PSA thanks the many merchants, businesses, organizations and individuals who supported this dream and helped to finally put the marquee in place.
