Big Bear Lake, CA, November 14, 2013 – Here’s a novel idea: burn calories on Thanksgiving Day…or at least rev up that metabolism before the big feast. Open Air Big Bear — the group behind hallmark outdoor events like Showshoe the Bear and Big Bear PaddleFest — is producing the first annual Turkey Trot.
The Big Bear Turkey Trot consists of three different road runs on Thanksgiving Day with the Start/Finish line at Meadow Park (41220 Park Avenue, Big Bear Lake). The run course is a relatively flat three-mile loop through the Eagle Point neighborhood, with six-mile runners completing two laps and nine-milers doing three.
Sign-up fees are $35 for the three-mile run, $45 for the six-mile and $55 for the nine-mile, with a portion to be donated to the Big Bear Senior Center’s holiday food drive. Registration is available online through November 26 at 10 p.m. or at the event — but please note same-day registration does not include a shirt or finisher’s prize.
Another wave of fun starts after the races, with an awards ceremony, Pie Eating and Costume Contests, and a raffle. Prizes will be awarded to the best Bear or Turkey costume, and the fastest turkey and bear of the day. The overall winner takes home a free turkey, and all participants get one free photo download, courtesy of Hoffman Media and Graphics.
