The budget for snowplow removal in the Sugarloaf area will be increased 50%, pending approval by the San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors in their 10am meeting today, March 3. Ken Willis Construction of Big Bear submitted the lowest bid for snowplowing services for County Service Area 70, or Sugarloaf, so, pending today’s approval, the contract will be increased to $150,000 from the current budget of $100,000. Funds will be taken from the CSA 70 operating budget which, for this winter season, has amounted to an expenditure of $86,000 on snowplow services for Sugarloaf.
In other news regarding roads in the Sugarloaf area, today’s Consent Calendar for County Supervisors includes the reappointment of both Paul Terry and Jerry Lemke to the CSA 70 Roads Commission, which also includes Walter Eggett, Marge McDonald and Bruce Black. When KBHR questioned Supervisor Neil Derry’s office on the re-appointment of Lemke, who has since been hired by the county to serve as field representative to Derry, we were told that no conflict is presented as many other county staff members sit on boards and commissions.
As for the delayed appointment of Todd Murphy to the BBARWA Board, legal counsel for the county will make a final determination after discussing with legal counsel for the Big Bear Municipal Water District, as Murphy is an elected official to MWD’s Board of Directors. Murphy is, to date, the only Fawnskin resident to apply for the BBARWA appointment.
