Big Bear, Ca, February 24, 2012, 3:00pm – The American Association of University Women in conjunction with Bearly Speaking Toastmasters will be holding a speech contest on February 28th for actively enrolled high school students. The speech contest will focus on the topic of “Bullying: So What?” and so far there are 10 contestants, and more can join. “AAUW established this speech contest in 2007,” said Sara Tully, AAUW Vice President of Programs. “ This will be our first contest sponsored locally by our branch, and we are excited to give high school students a voice on this important topic.” Bearly Speaking Toastmasters is assisting with the contest, and is available to coach contestants with speaking and presentation tips. Winners will receive cash prizes, and the first place winner will be submitted to the state level by DVD, for an opportunity to compete for an additional cash prize. High school students still wishing to compete can do so, and are encouraged to call Sara Tully at 544-1633, or Marlene Cain at 866-2819 to sign up. The event will take place at 6:00pm at the MWD building in Big Bear Lake, and the public is encouraged to attend.
