Big Bear, CA, December 19th, 2015 – In this, the season of giving, San Bernadino County Sheriff John McMahon recognized 32 individuals for giving the ultimate gift in 2015;
The gift of life.
Both public employees and private citizens received The Sheriff’s Lifesaving Award for acts of courage, wisdom, aid and mercy to those in need. These individuals are responsible for administering CPR, preventing attempted acts of suicide and providing first aid which directly contributed to saving many lives.
From Sheriff’s deputies, on and off duty– like Deputy Will Fifita who performed CPR on his own father upon his arrival at LAX, with the aid of Customs Agents Phillip Gaff and Kevin Mahoney, to Deputy Daniel Smith, whose day partner, Deputy David Franquez, was choking and Smith immediately performed the Heimlich maneuver, which saved his life– to citizens like Michael Ruth, who witnessed a car crash and reached into the burning vehicle to pull the injured driver to safety.
These and other acts of heroism exemplify the true gift of compassion. The Big Bear community Thanks You All.
