Last week, Lutheran Social Services received the good news from County Supervisors that Big Bear’s Mental Health Alliance would be funded an additional $1.4 million in federal funds (nearly doubling their budget for the coming two years) and, this week, they have more good news. As of Monday, April 27, the much-anticipated “one-stop shop” for social services will be open to Valley clients at the offices of Lutheran Social Services, at 41945 Big Bear Boulevard in the Summit Plaza. At the one-stop shop, residents will be able to pick up applications and schedule appointments for Transitional Aid Department services, including food stamps, cash aid and MediCal/Healthy Families. Though the federal Women, Infants and Children feeding program has not been established at Lutheran Social Services’ one-stop shop, the Children and Family Services Department (formerly known as CPS or DCS) will have staff in Big Bear one day a week. For families in need of aid and services, the Lutheran Social Services offices are open Monday through Thursday, from 8am to 6pm (though closed in the 1 o’clock hour for lunch). Questions can also be directed to LSS by calling 866-5070.
