On-Demand Curbside Chipping Available to Big Bear Lake Residents; Neighborhood Chipping for East Valley Starts With Baldwin Lake Area Next Week

The neighborhood chipping program is underway in the City of Big Bear Lake, and coming soon to East Valley neighborhoods. If you haven’t yet cleared defensible space on your property, it includes removing the lower limbs and branches of trees, up to six feet from the ground, as well as thinning trees, and pruning up and trimming back overgrown vegetation. For those within Big Bear Lake, curbside chipping of vegetation is on-demand. Simply call the chipper hotline at 752-2805 and, this year, says Big Bear Lake’s Fire Fuels Program Coordinator David Yegge, “We are available whenever and however often you need us.” More information on creating defensible space is available on the website of the Big Bear Lake Fire Department at thinisin.org. The Big Bear City Fire Department is partnering with the San Bernardino County Fire Department to do the rounds of neighborhood chipping, and will start with Baldwin Lake neighborhoods as of Monday, June 1. Through June 14, Baldwin Lake residents can leave their vegetation curbside for pickup. Crews will next stop in Fawnskin, starting June 15; Sugarloaf residents will be visited as of June 29, and those in Big Bear City and Erwin Lake can expect neighborhood chipping as of July 13.
