The Kiwanis Club of Big Bear Valley will be distributing Gifts for Kids this holiday season, in the annual program that benefits low-income families with children up to age 12. The service club will interview parents and guardians at the Masonic Lodge this weekend; interviews will take place at the lodge at 385 South Summit Boulevard, from 2 to 5pm this Sunday, December 6. Gifts for Kids will be distributed to families on Saturday, December 19, from 8am to 5pm, and also at the Masonic Lodge. In an effort to fund the program, which also includes distribution of clothing, shoes and gift certificates to local children, the Kiwanis Club will be auctioning off paintings donated by the daughters of Mac McAlister, a devoted Kiwanian until his passing last year. This special fundraising event, featuring auctioneer Art Harriman, will take place at B’s Backyard BarBQ (lakeside at 350 Alden Road) on Wednesday, December 9 at 7pm; paintings include a P51 Mustang by Frank Loudin and work by McAlister. In the meantime, the Kiwanis Club will hold their 16th annual sale of Christmas trees, starting tomorrow (December 4) in the Interlaken Shopping Center; all proceeds benefit the community through programs sponsored by Kiwanis. Questions on the Gifts for Kids program can be directed to Jennie Boyington at 584-3419.
