Big Bear, Ca, November 17, 2010, 12:00pm – Last year a group of organizations came together and formed the Holiday Giving Collaborative, with the goal of giving assistance to families during the holiday season. Some of the organizations involved include: Kiwanis Club of Big Bear Valley, Soroptimist of Big Bear Valley, DOVES, Bear Valley Healthy Start, Lutheran Social Services, Bear Valley Firefighter Association, and The Big Bear Sheriffs Department. The organization was given 60 Turkeys from the County this year to distribute. 12 Turkeys will be given to the Simple Supper Program through the United Methodist Church, 7 were given to the Sunset Lions, 2 to the Sober Living House, 7 to the Hummingbird Project, 15 to the American Legion for Veterans, 12 to St. Columba’s Church, and 5 turkeys to St Josephs. The receiving organizations are also a part of the Holiday Giving Collaborative. The collaborative also will give aid to families for Christmas in the form of Gifts for Kids, gift baskets, food cards, and food for the holidays. Families needing assistance during Christmas are encouraged to go to the Masonic Lodge this Saturday and Sunday, November 20th and 21st, from 2:00pm to 5:oopm on each day, to sign up with the collaborative and get interviewed. Other organizations involved include Granny’s Pantry, the loyal order of the moose, and Big Bear Recovery Services.
