Big Bear, CA, May 24, 2016 – Learning and good nutrition does not end when school lets out. The USDA Summer Food Service Program helps provide nutritious meals to children so they are better fueled with healthy food to learn and grow.
The SFSP is a federally-funded, state-administered program. The Summer Meals Program reimburses providers who serve free healthy meals to children and teens in low-income areas during the summer months when school is not in session. State agencies administer the program and communicate with USDA. Sponsors enter into agreements with State agencies to run the program.
Bear Valley Unified School District is a sponsor of the program and will offer free lunch to all children and teens, 18 and younger, at both Big Bear Elementary and Baldwin Lane Elementary Schools, Monday through Friday from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm all summer long. The Summer meals Program begins June 20 and ends on July 29.
