The San Bernardino County Department of Public Health has just received 15,000 doses on the inactivated H1N1 flu shot vaccine, and shots will be made available at three public health clinics this Saturday, October 31. Due to the limited supplies, only the following priority groups are recommended to get the H1N1 shot vaccine: pregnant women; people who care for infants younger than six months of age; anyone from age six months through 24 years; individuals with chronic medical conditions or weakened immune systems, ages 25 to 64; and health care and emergency medical personnel. The three clinics, which will be open from 10am to 5pm on Saturday, are located at 799 East Rialto Avenue in San Bernardino, 1647 East Holt Boulevard in Ontario, and 16453 Bear Valley Road in Hesperia. The H1N1 intranasal FluMist vaccine will also be available at these three clinics on Saturday, though the FluMist is licensed for healthy individuals ages two to 49.
Parents of Bear Valley Unified School District students should have received information regarding flu season on Wednesday; the two pages of information outline a pandemic flu planning checklist, as well as guidelines to follow when your child is sick. BVUSD asks that if students have a fever greater than 100 degrees, or are experiencing diarrhea or vomiting, please keep them at home, and be sure to report all illness-related absences to your child’s school. If you did not receive the information sent home from school with your student, call the school district at 866-4631.
