The newly elected President of the Big Bear City Community Services District, John Day, outlined committee assignments for his fellow CSD Directors Marge McDonald, Jeff Newsome, Rick Ollila and Barbara Beck at last night’s CSD Board meeting. Noting first that committee assignments are community service appointments, Day named McDonald and Beck to the administrative committee; Beck and Day to the park committee (which will work with the Recreation and Park District to see Paradise Park to completion); Ollila and Day to both the water committee and BBARWA Board (which includes CSD sewer); Newsome and Beck to the environment committee (which, Day noted, should also address all aspects of CSD-area appearance, and includes CSD solid waste); and McDonald and Newsome to the fire committee. As an adjunct duty of the fire committee, McDonald will also serve as CSD’s official designee to Mountain Mutual Aid. Though McDonald says she has been attending the Valley-wide MMA meetings since 1980, and on CSD’s behalf for the last eight years, CSD’s General Manager Mike Mayer said “we just can’t locate the actual minute documentation” that pertained to her official assignment; so, the board made it official by nominating her to this duty, to attend MMA meetings on CSD’s behalf. President Day had referenced now-President Obama’s inauguration during the January 19 meeting, saying he anticipated a message of hope and that, for CSD Directors with their new committee assignments, reminded: “Remember, for CSD, the first two words are community service. I think all board members should ask themselves, ‘What have I done for this community since we last met?’ We should be role models.”
