The City of Big Bear Lake’s new Armed Forces Banner Program was approved by City Council this week, and will provide an opportunity for families within the Big Bear Valley—not just Big Bear Lake—to honor active military personnel, by sponsoring a banner, which would list name of honoree and their branch of the military. Banners will be displayed at Veterans Park in Big Bear Lake, as well as on the lightpoles in the adjacent parking lot off Big Bear Boulevard and Knickerbocker; installation of these banners will take place twice a year, in May and October, to accommodate the Memorial Day and Veterans Day holidays at Veterans Park (and the hope is to have the banners in place for this Veterans Day, on November 11). Those wishing to sponsor a banner for a family member–including parent, spouse, child, grandchild, niece/nephew, son or daughter-in-law–active in the military, can complete an application, soon available from the City, and purchase the banner, each roughly 2’ wide by 9’ tall, at an estimated cost of $75, which covers manufacturing and installation.
