Six years later, property owners are still dealing with the effects of the Old Fire, but the County of San Bernardino is offering some relief.
Owners of Cedar Glen homes destroyed by the 2003 wildfire still face a deadline of August 1, 2009 to begin construction with existing foundations. However, those who plan to remove debris from their property though demolition rather than rebuilding will not have to start work by that date.
Supervisor Neil Derry intervened in the process because the county has not yet selected a contractor to remove debris from properties that miss the deadline. Derry wanted to ensure that property owners could see the price difference between a contractor they would select and the price the county will charge for removal before having to begin work. The county expects to select a contractor in September.
