Big Bear, Ca, September 26, 2011, 12:00pm – Starting today, Big Bear Elementary School will be hosting a shoe drive in the hopes of collecting 1000 pairs of shoes for Soles4Souls. Soles4Souls is a non-profit organization that started in 2004 after the tsunami in Southeast Asia, and Hurricane Katrina occurred. Since 2005, Soles4Souls has given away over 14 million pairs of new and gently worn shoes to people in over 127 countries, including Kenya, Thailand, Nepal and the United States. Big Bear Elementary School decided to partner with Soles4Souls after Principal Jeanette Haston found out about the organization while looking for a non-profit to help this year. According to Laura Bulrice at Big Bear Elementary, Principal Haston was drawn to this organization, and wants to keep to the schools moto of “live, learn, strive, serve” and give back to those in need. Donations can be brought by the front office of Big Bear Elementary School located at the corner of Knickerbocker, and Pennsylvania between the hours of 7:30am to 4:00pm, Monday through Friday. It is asked that the donated shoes be new or gently used. The shoe drive will run through October 7th.
