The Big Bear City Community Services District received their fiscal year 2008/2009 audit report at this week’s meeting, and though the district’s General Fund expenditures were higher (in part due to increased salary and benefits costs, prompted by the updated Safety Employees’ MOU), CSD’s revenues exceeded expenses by over $348,000. According to audit presenter Ken Al-Imam of Mayer Hoffman McCann, CSD is in good financial condition and, as Al-Imam told CSD Directors, “Your current financial picture is very stable, very secure—and compares favorably to the other 60 agencies we represent.”
The CSD meeting on September 21 also included the Board’s approval of a purchase of a half-acre property on the northeast corner of Maltby and Paradise, adjacent to CSD wells 1A and 1B, and next door to a parcel recently acquired, thereby giving the Water Department an additional acre for a future potential well site. General Manager Mike Mayer noted that staff was able to negotiate below asking price, and will ultimately pay $71,000 for the parcel, which is currently in escrow.
In addition to fire department presentations by Big Bear City Fire Chief Jeff Willis, this week’s CSD meeting included recognition of Solid Waste Department employee Estevan Magana. On what was Magana’s 10-year anniversary with the district, GM Mayer said, “Estevan is a very reliable and hard-working employee. His co-workers enjoy working with him, and his ‘no nonsense, all business approach’ is something that I very much appreciate.”
