Big Bear, Ca, January 27, 2011, 3:00pm –The Big Bear Area Regional Wastewater Agency is moving forward with a rate change special meeting based upon information derived from a sewer master plan previously presented, and based upon information from a rate study and connection fee analysis. The Special Meeting is scheduled for February 18that 9:00am at the BBARWA Offices at 121 Palomino Drive in Big Bear City. At this meeting the board will finalize any proposed rate increases based upon deferred maintenance and capital projects not currently funded. In addition bond funding requirements for existing and future bonds mandate a certain threshold of income to get lower bowering rates and keep exsisting bond holders from forcing higher rates on the agency. In order to make any changes to rates and fulfill Proposition 218 requirements, the majority protest notice must be mailed to over 24,000 sewer hook-up customers and then a public hearing must be scheduled. Wednesday’s BBARWA meeting was well attended by many citizens of Big Bear, and most of them supported the rate change in order to keep BBARWA solvent and fund the capital improvement projects, including one in Big Bear Lake and one in Big Bear City at the BBARWA Plant.
