Chamber Executive Shifts Priorities

Big Bear Lake, CA, October 18, 2013 – The Big Bear Chamber of Commerce announced this week that Executive Director Rachel Wade has tendered her resignation. Wade started in March of 2012; her last day will be November 15, 2013. Wade said, “I have to say that resigning from the Chamber was a very hard choice to make. The Chamber is a very important part of our business community and a valuable resource for all.  I have really enjoyed working with my board and the members.  I made this choice with a heavy heart but I need to do what is right for my daughter.” Wade told KBHR she’d been working almost since the day her four-year-old daughter was born, and that she plans to do consultant work from home to be around her more. Major Special Events Committee Looks to Solve Dilemmas and Decide Policy

Big Bear, Ca, January 11, 2012, 8:00am –The Major Special Events Ad-Hoc Committee will meet again tonight at 4:00pm in the Civic Center Training Room.  The committee will continue discussing major special event policy by going over the purpose of the committee, reviewing current policy framework, and will discuss dilemmas and how to address them.  Currently the Old Miners Association and the Big Bear Lake Chamber of Commerce have requested to hold events on the same date and at the same location.  The Old Miners want to hold their Chili Cook Off that has been around for years, and the Big Bear Chamber of Commerce, a business organization, wants to hold a BBQ fest both on the same date in July, and in the Bartlett Parking Lot.  According to City of Big Bear Lake Director of Intergovernmental/Community Relations Cheri Haggerty, dilemmas like this have happened before, and the committee will look to resolve the problem, and to develop a standard operating procedure for dealing with similar dilemmas in the future.  The committee will also discuss utilizing alternative venues for city events such as the Convention Center, Meadow Park, Rathbun Lot, Veterans and Rotary park.   The use of Bartlett Parking lot will also be on the discussion, and whether or not its use should be limited to once a month, and if it should be allowed for use at all...

Chamber President Set To Resign on March 1st.

Big Bear, Ca, December 21, 2011, 8:00am – The Big Bear Chamber of Commerce will have a few changes coming their way as of March 1st of next year. Yesterday, President and CEO Sara Russ announced her resignation in a letter to the Chamber Board of Directors.  Russ who has served as the Chambers President and CEO for the past four years is resigning for personal reasons.  According to the Chamber Board Chair Marlene Cain, a search committee consisting of Chamber board members will be put together and will provide more information about the search process for a new President and CEO at a later date.  The Big Bear Chamber of Commerce is a non-profit organization that serves the business members of the Big Bear...

Chamber To Hold Shopping Extravagnaza/ Power Lunch at the Northwoods Resort

Big Bear, Ca, November 30, 2011, 3:00pm – The Big Bear Lake Chamber of Commerce will host their December Power Lunch on Thursday, December 1st at the Northwoods Resort from 11:30am to 1:30pm.  This month, the Chamber is hosting the 3rd annual Holiday Shopping Extravaganza, and will feature member businesses, displaying and selling holiday gifts.  Participating member businesses include: PTL+ Ministries, Tan Yer Hide, Convention Center’s Good Courage Ranch, R&R Rant and Rave, Diamond Lil’s, the Boudoir Boutique inside Salon St. Moritz, Mountain Art Casting, Helicopter Big Bear, Arbonne International, The Bath Workshop, the North Shore Trading Co, and the Big Bear Valley Hummingbird Project.  Business members are encouraged to bring business cards to network with Chamber members.  The cost is $15 for members, and $20 for non-members at the new Power Lunch location at the Northwoods...

Shop Small on Small Business Saturday

Big Bear, Ca, November 25, 2011, 1:00pm – With days like Black Friday, and Cyber Monday, super sales are abundant with big box businesses.  American Express now for the second year is promoting a different day, they are calling it Small Business Saturday, and they are promoting shopping locally, and shopping at Mom and Pop businesses.  The local Big Bear Chamber of Commerce is supporting Small Business Saturday, and is encouraging locals and visitors to do some shopping this Saturday, at local Big Bear Retailers!
