This evening’s Budget Advisory Committee meeting will be the final opportunity for parents to provide input on budget cut suggestions for the Bear Valley Unified School District. Given state mandated mid-year budget cuts, BVUSD will need to eliminate $673,000 from the annual budget of roughly $23.5 million for fiscal year 2009-2010. In the first two of three Budget Advisory Committee meetings, potential budget reductions that have been discussed include an across-the-board salary cut for all school district staff, the elimination of class size reduction, cuts to Big Bear High School athletic programs, staff furloughs, and potential lay-offs. This evening’s meeting, to be held at 6pm at North Shore Elementary, will allow for public comment before the Budget Advisory Committee submits their recommendations to the Board of Trustees in presentations scheduled for February 17 and 23.
