Highway 18’s “Arctic Circle” Slammed With Big Winter Storm
The A.J. Acosta Company has been at work on re-opening the Arctic Circle portion of Highway 18, since being hired by CalTrans Monday afternoon to remove snow drifts (some as deep as 30 feet) resulting from avalanches on the morning of February 9. A.J. Acosta Company Hired to Clear Arctic Circle of Avalanche Snow
A series of avalanches earlier today prompted the closure of Arctic Circle on Highway 18. Terri Kasinga of CalTrans tells KBHR, “We have a lot of avalanches in the Arctic Circle area, several of them 10 feet tall.” These snow slides had trapped several vehicles on the roadway this morning, though CalTrans reports that all had been attended to by 9am.
