BBMS Students Raise Money to Help Fellow Students in Flint, MI

Big Bear, Ca, June 2, 2016 – Big Bear Middle School students are aiming high in the name of fundraising for themselves and students of Armstrong Middle School in Flint, Michigan, who may have been affected by the Flint River crisis. Drinking water in the Michigan town has been heavily contaminated by lead due to the toxic and corrosive nature of the river. This year, Big Bear Middle School Fundraising efforts have been to raise money for an Elkay EZ H2O water bottle filling station for the campus and a matching unit for Armstrong Middle School. The Flint station will help to cut down on plastic waste from the influx of plastic water bottles that have been sent to the area. Armstrong Middle School is not directly affected by the Flint River water issue, but many of its students are. Local students have raised money by making blender-bike smoothies, and hosting the Salsa Showdown and Healthy Taste of Big Bear dinner during STEM night.  Students were able to raise enough money for the Flint station, and with a generous grant from the Big bear Chamber of Commerce, they will reach their goal of installing a water station at Big Bear Middle School. For more information about the fundraising and how you can contribute, call Big Bear Middle School at...
