Amgen Tour of California Interested in Big Bear Lake Return

Big Bear, CA October 26, 2015 – The Amgen Tour of California officials tell local organizers that Big Bear is looking good for a 2017 return. Kristen Klein, President of Amgen Tour stated “Big Bear Lake is a very important partner for the Tour.  We have enjoyed an outstanding relationship with the City, as we have hosted three stages in the event’s 10 year history. The community support, spectacular scenery and spectator interest make Big Bear Lake an ideal location.” While the community awaits the return of the Amgen Tour of California, professional and recreational road cycling events are again being planned in and around Big Bear for 2016. The five stage Redlands Bicycle Classic is once again in discussions to host it’s Time Trial stage in Big Bear in April and the week long Big Bear Cycling Festival and 7th Annual Tour de Big Bear will host over 2000 recreational riders in August, 2016. Craig Smith, President of Big Bear Cycling and the Chair of the Local Organizing Committee for the Amgen Tour of California stated, “Big Bear Lake has become the Cycling Capital of Southern California and we remain very excited about professional and recreational road cycling in our community and the hopeful return of a 2017 Amgen Tour of California shows that Big Bear Lake is an important home for professional cycling in Southern California.”...

12th Annual Hot Dawgz and Hand Rails Kicks off the Winter Season

Tour de Big Bear attracts 2000 Riders and Supporters

Big Bear Lake, CA July 31, 2015 – As many as 2000 visiting and local cyclists will take to the streets this Saturday to participate in this years annual Tour de Big Bear ride.  If you wanted to ride, it may be hard to jump in now as the Big Bear Cycling Association recently announced that the event is sold out except for the possibility of cancellations.  The Big Bear Village at Pine Knot and Village Drive will be a hub of activity throughout the weekend.  Saturday’s staggered starts are scheduled to begin with the 100 miler’s rolling off at 7:15 followed by the 70 mile at 7:45; the 50 mile at 8:15; and the 25 mile riders beginning their ride at 8:45 am.   If you are not riding, be aware the temporary road closures in the Village.  And, for all drivers, be aware of the large number of riders that will be present on Highway 18 and 38 from Snow Valley on the west end to Baldwin Lake, Onyx Summit and Jenks Lake on the east end.  The new California law requires that drivers give three feet spacing between them and the person on a bicycle.  So if you need to travel Saturday you may want to give yourself a little extra time to navigate what is expected to be crowded mountain highways.  With mandatory cut off times...

FRIDAY’S MEN’S & WOMEN’S INDIVIDUAL TIME TRIALS WILL BE RELOCATED TO SANTA CLARITA DUE TO WEATHER CONCERNS

Big Bear Lake, CA – May 13, 2015 – Due to the forecast of snow and low temperatures, the Amgen Tour of California organizers have determined that race day conditions will not be safe for riders, teams, partners, fans or staff participating or attending the Individual Time Trial events scheduled for Friday, May 15 at Big Bear Lake. In order to preserve the important Time Trial stage of the 2015 Amgen Tour of California, arrangements are being formalized  to relocate Friday’s Men’s and Women’s Individual Time Trials to the Santa Clarita vicinity.
