I-15 Reopens in the Cajon Pass

Update Big Bear, CA, August 18, 2016 –  The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) and the California Highway Patrol (CHP) reopened southbound Interstate 15 (I–15) through the Cajon Pass this morning at 10:45 a.m. The #1 lane will remain closed from Oak Hill Road to Kenwood Avenue for Caltrans crews. All ramps will remain closed at Kenwood Avenue, Cleghorn Road, SR 138 and Oak Hill Road Big Bear, CA, August 18, 2016 – Caltrans and the California Highway Patrol  re-opened the Northbound I-15 through the Cajon Pass last evening at approximately 10:15 p.m.  All ramps will remain closed at Kenwood Avenue, Cleghorn Road, SR 138 and Oak Hill Rd.  Work will continue on the Southbound I-15 to complete guardrail and other repairs.  Southbound I-15 will remain closed until further notice. All other roads previously closed remain closed. One of the designated detours is the 18 from Lucerne through Big Bear and down the front grade via the 330. Expect delays and periods of heavy traffic. The Bluecut fire is currently 31,689 acres with 4% containment. There are 1584 personnel on scene with 178 engines, 26 crews, 10 air tankers, 2 Very Large Air Tankers, and 17 Helicopters, including night flying helicopters. Additional firefighters and equipment have been ordered and will be responding directly to the fire. Missing Hiker Gary Grine Found!

Big Bear, CA, August 13th, 2016 – UPDATE – MISSING HIKER GARY GRINE LOCATED (08/13/16 @ 1:00 P.M.): Missing Hiker Gary Grine was located earlier today. Grine sustained minor injuries overnight in rugged terrain. At approximately 11:15 a.m. today, Grine was able to flag down a group of off-roaders, who called in Grine’s general location to Sheriff’s Dispatch. With the assistance of the off-roaders, Sheriff’s Aviation, and deputies and Search & Rescue members from the Big Bear Sheriff’s Station, Grine was escorted to a staging area where paramedics were waiting to treat his injuries. The Big Bear Sheriff’s Station thanks the public for sharing information that ultimately led to locating Gary Grine. Special thanks to the off-roaders for the assist!! When Grine did not return later in the evening, Grine’s girlfriend notified the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department. Sheriff’s Aviation Conducts a Hoist Rescue at Snow Summit

Big Bear, CA, August 2, 2016 – On Saturday, July 30, at approximately 10:40 a.m., Sheriff’s Air Rescue 07 was dispatched to the Snow Summit Ski Resort to assist the San Bernardino County Fire Department regarding an injured mountain biker. The victim, Jamie Adamson, was riding her mountain bike near the ski resort when she fell from the bicycle. During the fall, Adamson suffered major injuries and was unable to walk. Fire Department personnel arrived and located Adamson before the crew arrived. The personnel determined Adamson would need to be hoist rescued due to her injuries and the remote location....

Fatal Accident on SR-38

Big Bear Lake, CA, July 5, 2016 – On the morning of Sunday, July 3rd, Arrowhead Area CHP officers responded to the scene of a traffic collision on SR-38, also known as North Shore Drive, west of Minnesula Road by Juniper Point.  Eric Rhydale Caston, a 35 year old resident of Big Bear City, California, was driving west on the 38 in a White, Ford, F-250.  For an unknown reason, Caston allowed his vehicle to travel off the road and down an embankment.  Caston was not wearing his seatbelt and was ejected from his vehicle.  As a result, he sustained fatal injuries and...
