Big Bear Lake Home Damaged by Fire

Big Bear Lake, CA – A residential structure fire was reported at approximately 2:45 p.m., Thursday, June 15, at Lakeview Drive and Lagunita Lane in Big Bear Lake. Upon arrival, fire crews observed the approximately 1,000 square foot, single-story, single family residence was fully charged with smoke and some flames visible from the exterior. Crews made entry through the front door and took approximately 20 minutes to suppress the fire. Seven Big Bear Fire Department crew members responded with three engines and two ambulances. Pursuit Ends in Big Bear With Use of Spike Strips

Big Bear, CA – On Thursday, June 1, at 1:20 a.m. deputies from the Yucaipa Police/Sheriff’s Station were dispatched to a report of a violation of a domestic violence restraining order. The suspect was identified as 35 year old Leonard Gerra of Redlands. Gerra made comments to the victim causing the victim to believe he may attempt to harm or injure the victim. During the investigation, deputies observed Gerra driving in the area of the victim’s residence and initiated a traffic stop. Gerra failed to yield and led deputies on a pursuit through Mentone, Redlands, Highland, north on highway 330 and on to Highway 18. Spike strips were deployed by deputies from the Big Bear Station and Gerra’s vehicle was stopped on Simonds Dr. and Big Bear Blvd. Gerra was arrested without incident and booked at the West Valley Detention Center for felony violation of a domestic violence restraining order, felony evading and for a felony no-bail warrant for corporal injury to a spouse or cohabitant. Hiker rescued by Sheriff’s Aviation on the Pacific Crest Trail

Big Bear, CA – On Wednesday, May 31, at approximately 4:15 p.m., Sheriff’s Volunteer Forces contacted the Aviation Unit regarding a hiker who activated a Personal Locater Beacon (PLB) on Pacific Crest Trail, near the North Fork area. The GPS coordinates from the activation showed the hiker, identified as Jared Lee Ewing, was approximately 6 miles south of Onyx Peak. 40 King 2, with a crew of two Deputies, responded to the GPS coordinates to search for Ewing. Stolen Bronze Star Medal Recovered and Returned to Family of Korean War Vet

Big Bear, CA – In August, 2014, deputies of the Big Bear Sheriff’s Station executed a search warrant at a residence in the 100 block of S. Winding Lane in Big Bear City and recovered stolen property that included a Bronze Star medal with a “V” Device. The Bronze Star had the name Dell Bender engraved on the back of it. Bomb Threat at Baldwin Lane Elementary School

Sugarloaf, CA – On Tuesday, May 23, at 2:18 p.m., deputies from the Big Bear Sheriff’s Station responded to a reported bomb threat at Baldwin Lane Elementary School in Sugarloaf. School officials advised Sheriff’s Dispatch that they received a call at approximately 2:10 p.m. from what sounded like a male subject trying to disguise his voice, saying that bombs had been planted in classrooms. Classes were in session at the time the threat was made, and school officials worked quickly to evacuate approximately 400 students and faculty members to the parking lot and outlying playground. Multiple patrol units responded to the call for service and deputies worked as a team to conduct a systematic and thorough search of the inside and outside of the school. At approximately 3:20 p.m. a sweep of the entire premises was concluded, and deputies found no suspicious persons or packages at the school.
