Blues Legends Play Lakeside Amphitheater

Big Bear Lake, CA, July 23, 2013 – On August 3, Blues for the Zoo will raise funds for Big Bear Alpine Zoo, our local rehabilitation sanctuary for injured and confiscated animals. World-class music, food booths and an artisan fair will center around the Big Bear Lake Swim Beach Outdoor Amphitheater (41220 Park Avenue). Gates open at 1:00 p.m.; the concert lasts from 3:00 to 7:00. Parking is $4 and tickets are $35 at the gate or $30 in advance, available now at the Big Bear Chamber of Commerce (630 Bartlett Road/866-4607), at the Big Bear Alpine Zoo Gift Shop (43285 Goldmine Drive) or online.  Children 10 and under admitted free of charge. Beach chairs and blankets are welcome for lawn seating, and Swim Beach will be open to concert attendees. Four restaurants will offer freshly prepared food, including meat on the grill, salads, and dessert. No coolers or pets allowed. Area artisans will be selling a variety of handmade products, including; ceramics, jewelry, paintings, photography, hand dyed silks, soaps and botanical lotions. But the core of the event is of course live blues. Boogie-woogie pianist Kenny “Blues Boss” Wayne, considered one of the links between past and modern-day blues piano players, will open the show. Local Murder Suspect Pleads Not Guilty

San Bernardino, CA, September 19, 2012 – According to the San Bernardino County Court Records, murder suspect Ronald Michael Hitchcock, who was arrested on Saturday, September 15th for the murder of Deborah Crouch, plead not guilty to murder charges and not guilty to the charges of cruelty to another’s animal.   Hitchcock was a resident of Big Bear City at the time of his arrest who resided with the victim identified as his girlfriend.  Both Crouch and her dog were found in the submerged car that crashed through the fencing at Swim Beach and into the lake last Saturday where the suspect was found at the scene.  Previous court records show that Hitchcock was charged with spousal battery on July 9th of this year.  He plead not guilty to those charges but was convicted of disturbing the peace in the same incident.  An autopsy of Crouch is being conducted to determine the cause of death and any contributing factors to her death.  Hitchcock remains in custody at the West Valley Detention Center with bail set at $1...

Local Woman Identified in Swim Beach Incident

Big Bear Lake, CA, September 17, 2012 – UPDATE: The San Bernardino County Coroner’s office has released the name of the deceased victim found in a car that was pulled from the waters of Big Bear Lake at Swim Beach in Meadow Park last Saturday, September 15th.  In a bizarre series of events, at approximately 6am, a single vehicle apparently crashed through the fencing at Swim Beach, traveled through the beach area and into the water.  According to the San Bernardino Sun, a neighbor contacted the Sheriff’s Department describing a man who was soaking wet yelling from the fenced area immediately after the incident.  The man is described as the victim’s boyfriend and later explained to deputies that his vehicle had gone into the lake.  The Sheriff’s Dive Team was called to the scene who discovered the vehicle contained a woman’s body and that of a dog.  After investigation, the man at the scene, Ronald Michael Hitchcock, 56, was arrested and booked into the West Valley Detention Center and is currently being held without bail.  The victim, Deborah Crouch, 53 years of age, from Big Bear City was found deceased in the vehicle along with a dog.  The event is under investigation by the Sheriff’s Department Homicide division.  An autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause of death and any contributing factors to her death.  Anyone with information is...

Crime Scene and Vehicle Accident at Meadow Park

Blues For The Zoo Brings Music To The Mountains

Big Bear Lake, CA, July 25, 2012, 3:00pm – Blues For The Zoo, a fundraiser for the Big Bear Lake Moonridge Animal Park is set for Saturday, August 4 at the Swim Beach Outdoor Amphitheater. The afternoon of music from 3 to 7:30pm will feature C.J. Chenier, Jimmy Thackery & The Drivers, and Alvin Youngblood Hart. The gates open at 1pm and outdoor chairs and blankets are welcome for festival-style lawn seating.
