State Route 18 Scheduled to Close for Work in Crestline

Crestline, CA – Southern California has been hit by several major winter storms in the past month, and the San Bernardino mountain areas have experienced significant precipitation and snow events as a result. These storms produced heavy rock flows that damaged an existing rock barrier on State Route 18. Caltrans is scheduled to begin emergency repairs to the slope drape and rock fence on SR-18 located 0.7 miles east of the SR-18/SR-138 separation near Crestline. Revised Highway Closure Schedule For Wed. Oct. 15

  Big Bear, CA, October 14, 2014 – On Wednesday October 15, Caltrans will be installing a 100 ft. long pedestrian and horse bridge across State Highway 38. The bridge is being installed to safely connect the two halves of Camp Tahquitz, which is bisected by Highway 38, and generates over 20,000 pedestrian crossings per year. Highway 38 will be closed beginning at 8:30 am and reopened by 3:30 pm. There will be a detour available around the installation site on Jenks Lake Road, however SR 18 (the front grade) will be completely open while the bridge installation takes place. Slight Change in SR-18 Closure Schedule

Big Bear, CA, October 7, 2014 – Yesterday, Caltrans started the clearing and clean-up work that they will be doing on Arctic Circle this month, beginning the weekly closures of SR-18 between the Big Bear Dam and Snow Valley. There has been a slight change in the schedule however. Big Bear, CA, July 11, 2011, 8:00am – Roadwork will continue this week on the back side of State Route 18 between Big Bear and Lucerne Valley. Caltrans will be restricting access to larger trucks for safety reasons due to the current asphalt project and the width of the road in several locations. California Highway Patrol units will be stationed at the top of SR18 near Big Bear and at the bottom of SR18 in Lucerne Valley.
