Soroptimist of Big Bear Valley Awards Locals in Community Service

Big Bear Lake, CA, February 20, 2015 – Soroptimist International of Big Bear Valley honored three local women, one business and one organization on Thursday, February 19th at their annual awards ceremony entitled this year “Live Your Dream: Education and Training Awards for Women”.  The Soroptimist Ruby Award was presented to Patty Hafen and Marilyn Vecchio, two women who have demonstrated the ability to improve the quality of life for other women or girls in our community.  Patty Hafen was honored for her years of fundraising efforts and dedication to Big Bear Valley’s schools and Marilyn Vecchio has served in healthcare in Big Bear for over 30 years with positions at the Bear Valley Community Healthcare District and the Mom and Dad Project.  Single mother of three, Amy Rose, received the Women’s Opportunity Award and a scholarship towards pursuing her dream of becoming a Registered Nurse.  SIBBV also recognized Nancy and Gus Gonzales of the Hacienda Grill restaurant with a Business Appreciation Award and the Rotary Club of Big Bear Lake received the Organization Appreciation Award for all the good they do for our community.  In addition to Soroptimist’s awards, Assemblyman Jay Obernolte presented each honoree with a California Legislature Assembly Certificate of...

SIBBV Honors Local Women and Community Businesses and Organizations

Big Bear, CA, February 11, 2013 – Soroptimist International of Big Bear Valley held their “Best for Women” Community Celebration last night at Northwood’s Resort.  Honorees included Violet Richardson Award recipient, Big Bear High School senior Katie Adams, Ruby Award recipient Big Bear Valley Recreation and Park District dance instructor, Cortney Seifert-Warmsley, and Women’s Opportunity Award recipient Mom and Dad Project’s Tina Wade.  Soroptimist President, Jo Ann Cecil, also presented Business Appreciation honors to Holloway’s Marina and RV Park and North Shore Landing Marina owners Loren and Patty Hafen and Interior’s owners Patty Doktor and Dean Sizemore.  Additionally, Soroptimist distributed a total of $14,200 to local community organizations bringing the grand total dollar amount donated in 2011-2012 to...

Soroptimist Awards Will Go To Local Women

Big Bear Lake, CA, November 28, 2012, 6am – Soroptimist International of Big Bear Valley is looking for a few good women for three local awards. The Soroptimist’s will present the Woman’s Opportunity Award, the Violet Richardson Award and the Women Helping Women Ruby Award. The Woman’s Opportunity Award provides women who serve as primary wage earners for their families with a cash award to offset costs associated with their efforts to attain higher education or additional skills and training. The Violet Richardson Award recognizes young women ages 14-17 for demonstrating leadership by identifying an issue that is important to them in their community and the world, and addressing it through volunteer efforts. The Women Helping Women Ruby Award is given to a woman who has worked to improve the lives of women and girls, and would inspire and encourage other women.
