Goldsmith’s Race Series Kicks Off This Weekend!

Big Bear, Ca, December 16, 2011, 4:00pm - The Goldsmiths Race Series will kick off this Sunday, December 18th at Snow Summit. Children and adults of all skiing abilities can participate in the race series that will occur each month through March. The series has been around for a long time, and was previously known as the Alpine Race Series and is for members of the race team, development team, master’s team, and general public to participate in. Proceeds from the race go towards purchasing training equipment for the race team. Interested skiers can register in the clubhouse on Sunday, the 18th before the race, which will at 10:00am, with course inspection starting at 8:30am. The race will be a slalom format, and will take place in the Jim Bollingmo Race Arena, located at the bottom of Miracle Mile, and is a great area for spectators. The series will continue with the second race taking place on Janaury 15th, and additional races on February 12th, March 4th and culminating on March 25th.
Hit The Slopes at Big Bear Mountain Resorts

Big Bear, Ca, November 21, 2011, 3:00pm - Big Bear Mountain Resorts is in great shape, and has opened up more runs after Sunday night’s snowfall resulting in 5 inches of snow at Bear Mountain and Snow Summit. With the colder temperatures at night, snow-making equipment has been adding snow to the runs, which means now is the perfect time to hit the slopes. If you don’t know how to ski or board, or want to learn something, take a lesson at either Summit or Bear, as lessons are available for both skiing and boarding, and for people of all ages, and levels. Early season rates will continue for both day tickets and season passes through Wednesday, November 23rd. Bear Mountain and Snow Summit Opening This Week

Big Bear, Ca, November 7, 2011, 12:00pm - Big Bear Mountain Resorts announced today that Bear Mountain and Snow Summit will be opening this week for skiers and snowboarders. Bear Mountain will open on Wednesday, November 9th, and Snow Summit will open Thursday, November 10th. With four to six inches of natural snowfall over this past weekend, and snowmaking at every opportunity, both resorts will be opening with nearly full width runs and quality snow. Both resorts will be open at 8:30am, and will close at 4:00pm. At Summit, chairs 1, 2 and 8 will be open, and at Bear Mountain chair 9 will be open. More lifts and runs will continue to open as snowmaking continues. With more cold weather ahead, and snow predicted this weekend, Big Bear Mountain Resorts is ready for the winter season, and they are inviting everyone to get an early start on the slopes. Big Bear Mountain Resorts Gears Up For Winter

Big Bear, Ca, November 4, 2011, 3:00pm - Big Bear Mountain Resorts announced earlier this week that they have transitioned Chris Riddle into the position of Vice President of Marketing for Big Bear Mountain Resorts. Additionally Rio Tanbara has been announced as the new Director of Marketing for Bear Mountain and Clayton Shoemaker as the Director of Youth Marketing and Park Development for Big Bear Mountain Resorts. “Having called Big Bear Mountain Resorts my home mountain for over 20 years, I am excited to play a larger role this season in making Bear Mountain the ultimate ski and snowboard scene of Southern California,” says Tanbara. Snow Summit has closed down the scenic sky chair this weekend as both resorts gear up for the winter season. The coating of snow the valley received today will provide Big Bear Mountain Resorts with a good start to the snow season.
Ski Dazzle Invites Big Bear Businesses To Participate in Ski & Snowboard Show

Big Bear, Ca, October 31st, 12:00pm - Big Bear Valley Business members are invited to find out about how they can get involved in Ski Dazzle. Ski Dazzle is one of the largest ski & snowboard shows in the nation, and it takes place in Los Angeles at the LA Convention Center from December 1st through 4th. On November 2nd at 6:00pm, the owner of Ski Dazzle, Judy Grey will be on hand at the Masonic Lodge to answer any questions business owners or members may have about the show. Eric Schwartz, owner of Get The Burger has taken part in Ski Dazzle for many years now and encourages other businesses to come and find out how they can get involved. According to Schwartz, there is an opportunity for businesses to showcase at the ski and snowboard show for lower prices this year. Final Weekend for Bear Mountain this Season

Big Bear, Ca April 9, 2011 12:00 pm – Thursday and Friday’s spring storm added 7 to 10 inches of powdery snow to the slopes according to Bear Mountain Resorts, and conditions are very good to excellent. Although this weekend will be the last of the season for Bear Mountain, Snow Summit plans to remain open through April 17, and possibly through the Saturday before Easter, April 23. The resorts are encouraging Big Bear residents and visitors to enjoy the opportunity for extended spring skiing and snowboarding. They will honor all season passes, including Bear Mountain only passes, beginning Monday, April 11 until Snow Summit closes for the season.

15th Annual Victor Alvarez Memorial Race

Big Bear, Ca, March 22, 2011, 8:00am - The 15th Annual Victor Alvarez Memorial Race will be held this Saturday March 26th at Snow Summit. Head over to Snow Summit at 10:00am to see the best local and Southern California skiers race in a Giant Slalom style course. Those interested in participating should arrive at Snow Summit between 8:00am and 9:30am and register in the VIP room of the Bear Bottom Lodge. Entry fees are $50 for children 15 and under and $70 for those 16 and older and includes a lift ticket, t- shirt and race fees. The Victor Alvarez Memorial race is a fundraiser for the Snow Summit Junior Race Team, and team members and parents assist in the organization and operation of the race and silent auction. If you want to participate but don’t want to race, there will be a large silent auction which is open to the public with many great items to bid on including a trip for two, including lodging and airfare to Breckenridge, Colorado, tickets to Kings, Clippers, and Lakers games, ski and snowboard equipment and much more. The race will take place in the Jim Bollingmo Race arena, located at the bottom of Miracle Mile, that is a very viewer friendly slope, so everyone is invited to cheer on the competitors.

Still Plenty of Snow in Big Bear

Big Bear, Ca March 12, 2011 12:00 pm – While the Big Bear Valley is enjoying spring-like temperatures and clear days, there is still plenty of snow on the mountain slopes. Now is the time for special discounts offered by the resorts. Today only, ski and snowboard enthusiasts can get up to $13 off tickets for tomorrow’s Super Sunday on the Snow. The tickets must be purchased online to receive the discount. Also available are Screamin’ Deal season passes, good for the rest of this year and all of next year’s snow season too. This pass can be used at tonight’s final night session at Snow Summit. There are races and events planned at both resorts through the end of March and into April. With 3 to 5 feet of snow still on the slopes, there is time to enjoy good snowboarding and skiing in Big Bear.
