Celebrate the Life of Stephanie Murphy

Big Bear, Ca, February 6, 2012, 12:00pm – Stephanie Layne Murphy passed away on January 26th due to her battle with cancer at the age of 45.  Stephanie was well known in the community for her infectious smile, loving personality, and was an admired real estate professional.  Stephanie and her husband Mark moved to Big Bear when her sons Dillon and Sean were young, and enjoyed all of the outdoor activities the mountains had to offer. Stephanie passed her love of fitness and healthy active lifestyle to her sons, who are involved in local athletics.  Stephanie always had safety in mind when it came to the kids involved on the Snow Summit Race Team Ski Team, therefore, In lieu of flowers, Stephanie wishes you to donate to the Big Bear Ski Educational Foundation.  Donations can be taken to Union Bank under the “The Stephanie Murphy Safety Equipment Fund.”   A celebration of Stephanie’s life will be held on Tuesday February 7th at 2 p.m. rain or shine at the Snow Summit Bear Bottom Lodge V.I.P...

Services For Gary Antes: October 14th

Big Bear, Ca, October 10, 2011, 1:00pm – Long time resident of the Big Bear Valley, Gary Antes passed away on Thursday September 29th, after being diagnosed with non-Hodgkins Lymphoma in July of this year.  Gary was born in San Jose, California, and moved to Big Bear in 1972 after visiting on an Easter Vacation, and bought Bear City Glass and created one of the most respectable businesses in Big Bear. Gary’s sons, Craig and Jeff continue to operate the business today.  Gary was very involved with the community, and served as the president of the Rotary Club of Big Bear Lake for a time.  According to his family, Gary enjoyed his years of retirement, engaging in all the activities he loved, including golf, traveling, and keeping up with Angels baseball.  A mass will be held at 11am on Friday, October 14th at St. Jospeh’s Catholic Church with a reception to follow at the Parish Hall.  Donations can be made in Gary’s name to the American Cancer Society or Rotary...

Easter Morning in Big Bear

Big Bear, Ca April 23, 2011 3:00 pm – Since the 325 AD, Christians have celebrated Easter on the first Sunday after the full moon following the spring equinox.  As a celebration of rebirth, the Easter Sunrise Service has long been an important tradition within many Christian churches.  In Big Bear this year, a sunrise service will be held outdoors in the prayer park beside Shepard in the Pines Lutheran Church.  The service begins at 6:00 am Sunday morning.  Special Easter services are planned at the other churches in the valley as well.  Several of the local restaurants will be offering Easter Brunch menus including Stillwells at the Northwoods Resort and Knottinghams in the Village.  At Madlon’s in Big Bear City, enjoy all-you-can-eat waffles from 8:00 am until 2:00 pm.  Peppercorn Grill will have several special lunch items beginning at 11:00 am.  For a celebration of Easter and spring, Big Bear offers a wide variety of choices, something for just about anyone.
