Human Remains Found on Cougar Crest Trail

Big Bear, CA – On Saturday, April 29, at approximately 6:42 p.m., hikers on Cougar Crest Trail located human skeletal remains a short distance off of the trail. Deputies from the Big Bear Sheriff’s Station responded and confirmed the remains were human. On Sunday, April 30, investigators from the Sheriff’s Specialized Investigations Homicide Detail and Coroner’s Division responded to the location and recovered the skeletal remains. The identity of the remains, and a cause of death are subject of an ongoing investigation. Coroner Asking For Help Identifying Man Found In The Forest

Big Bear, Ca, December 9, 2015 – The Coroner’s Division of the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department is asking for the public’s assistance in identifying an adult male who was found dead, inside a tent, in the San Bernardino National Forest north of Cedar Lake Camp on November 28. The decedent is described as a possible white male, had short grey hair and a beard, and was approximately 5’7″ – 5’8″ in height. He was wearing brown GoreTex Merrill boots, Polarma black thermal pants, a Polarmax black thermal shirt, blue hiking pants, a large light green button up shirt, and an Avalanche brand green and grey jacket. Woman Killed in Skiing Accident

Big Bear, CA, December 1, 2015 – A 21-year-old woman from Ohio was killed during a skiing accident on Sunday in Big Bear. KTLA television reports Natalie Altieri of Canton, Ohio, was skiing at Bear Mountain when she collided with a metal stairway, according to a brief statement from the San Bernardino County Coroner’s office. Altieri was taken to an area hospital, where she was pronounced dead less than an hour after the collision. According to the coroner’s statement, Altieri died of “injuries sustained in the accident.”  An autopsy was set to be conducted to determine her cause of death.  Altieri was a fashion design student at the University of Cincinnati.  University President Santa J. Big Bear Lake Homicide Investigation

 Big Bear Lake, CA, April 29, 2015 – On Tuesday, April 28, at approximately 11:20 a.m., deputies of the Big Bear Sheriff’s Station responded to a report of a deceased male at a residence in the 42000 block of Willow Avenue in Big Bear Lake. A relative of the deceased called the Sheriff’s Department after going to the cabin, entering the residence, and finding the victim dead at the location. The deceased has been identified as 33-year-old George Kovacevich. Deputies determined Kovacevich to be the victim of a gunshot wound. The Homicide Division of the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department is now investigating the case. Human Remains Found on Forest Trail Identified

Big Bear, CA, April 7, 2015 – As previously reported, on March 27, 2015, a hiker found what he believed to be human remains in the forested area North of Myrtle Avenue and North Shore Drive in Big Bear City. Detectives from the Big Bear Sheriff’s Station responded to the scene and confirmed the remains as human. The Coroner’s Office has positively identified the human remains found as 60 year old Brian McCamish who was a resident of Big Bear Lake. McCamish was reported as a missing person on September 23, 2014. The cause and manner of his death is undetermined at this time.
