For Ryan Hall “It just wasn’t in the cards

Ryan Hall and teammate Abdi Abdirahman drop out of Olympic Marathon around mile 11 and within minutres of each other. Hall described his race in an interview with NBC. “Just had some hamstring tightness going into the race and it was something that was getting progressively worse as I was going, and I start to feel my stride start to alter. From the beginning, it didn’t feel fluid, I was trying to work through it the best I could, but it got to a point to where it wasn’t going to let me continue. It was the first I’ve ever DNF’d in my life, so you know, it’s a real bummer. I’m kind of in shock right now. It hasn’t really hit me, what just happened. One of those things where it’s going to take some time to get through. You gotta have big perspective, I guess, and know what your body can handle and what it can’t and today it just wasn’t in the cards” Ryan Hall owns the fastest marathon time ever for an American marathon runner and is a Big Bear High School Graduate. 5th Memorial Run For Freedom Takes Place Saturday

Big Bear, Ca, September 19, 2011, 1:00pm – The 5th Annual First Lt. Jared M. Landaker Memorial Run for Freedom will be held at Snow Summit  this Saturday, September 24th. There is a 5k, 10k, and 15K Run/Walk, with a 1 mile Family Fun Walk, and is an event for all ages and levels of activity. The opening ceremony will start 8:45am with the Marine Corps League Color Guard leading the flag salute, along with a releasing of doves.  It is an emotional but patriotic event and it is a fun way to show your support for our military and their families. All proceeds raised go to the Seven Stars Foundation, Inc., a non-profit organization, which provides financial and emotional assistance to those who have and are serving our nation. The Seven Stars Foundation also provides local high school scholarships and meals at the Barnstorm Cafe for all military personnel who fly in on training missions. Many of those aviators are now serving in Iraq and Afghanistan. The Seven Stars Foundation began when the seven crew members of a US Marine Corps CH-46 Casevac helicopter was shot down in Iraq on Feb. 7th, 2007 on their last mission. Ryan Hall Places 4th in Boston Marathon & Breaks US Record

Big Bear, Ca, April 18, 2011, 11:15am – Ryan Hall has made US history again coming in 4th place today at the Boston Marathon with the time of 2:04:58. Hall breaks his own Boston Marathon records with his time today, and he also breaks the overall American record. In 2009 Hall finished with a time of 2:09: 40, and in 2010 with a time of 2:08:41. Hall was the sole American in the top 10 surrounded mainly by Kenyan and Ethiopian runners. Conquer The Bear Comes to a Close

Big Bear, Ca, September 13, 2010, 5:00pm – The 2010 Conquer the Bear series has come to a close with the final event, the Endure the Bear trail run.  The series which began in early February, started with a snowshoe race through rain and snow, followed by a mountain bike ride in June, Paddlefest in July, and lastly Endure the Bear Trail run on Saturday September 11th.  19 people participated in Conquer the Bear, which consisted of participants racing in the short courses of the events.  Conquer the Bear Elite consisted of 10 participants who competed in the most difficult race of each event.  Kelley Brunson of Big Bear Lake took first in the women’s division followed by Diane Bradley of Big Bear Lake.  Adam Williams of Big Bear Lake was followed by 16-year-old Casey Williams of Big Bear Lake, and in third was 18-year-old Ramon Escobar of Tecate, Mexico.  Other participants in the Conquer the Bear Elite series include Cameron Williams, Ross Goulet, Matt Smith, Jeremy Wright and Richard Goulet.
