Rotary Club Hosts Senior Holiday Dinner

Big Bear Lake, CA, November 27, 6am – The Rotary Club of Big Bear Lake will have their annual Senior Citizens’ Holiday Dinner on Wednesday, December 5, 2012 at Pine Summit Conference Center in Big Bear Lake. Free tickets are available at the Big Bear Senior Center, but attendance is limited and seniors must pick up their tickets in person. Every year, the Rotary Club provides this free, fun event for the senior citizens of Big Bear Valley. Dinner will be a full course turkey dinner with pumpkin pie for dessert. Rotarians and their spouses donate their time to help decorate, host, serve beverages, and clean up. Entertainment will be provided by Elementary School Choirs from the Bear Valley Unified School District.  Seniors can also get raffle tickets for gifts provided by local Rotarians. Rotary Club Honors Scholarship Winners

Big Bear, CA, May 4, 2012, 1:00pm – The Rotary Club of Big Bear Lake has announced the names of the winners of their 2012 Rotary Scholarship Program.  This year the Club is awarding a total of $7500 in five separate scholarships of $1500 each.  The Rotary Scholarship winners include Lindsay Hafen, Jackson Rees and Alyssa Larson for academic scholarships, Carly Jo Reeves for the Bob Wood Memorial Scholarship in Communications and Journalism and Dru Chilcoat for the John Voss Memorial Scholarship used towards Vocational School.  The students will be introduced at the annual Rotary Eagle of Excellence Community Service Awards and Dinner this Sunday evening, May 6th.  The deserving students receiving these scholarships are recognized for their academic achievement, student government, sports, clubs, fine arts, outside work and for their community service during their high school careers.  Thirty-three applicants applied this year from a class of 176 students.  Applications were reviewed by a committee of Rotary members who then made the selections in each category.  Committee Chair Dave Caretto stated “there were many qualified and deserving students; we only wish we had more funds to distribute.  The quality of our high school students is outstanding, and this is a tribute not only to the students themselves but also to their parents, their teachers and their school.”   Additionally, the Rotary Club sponsors scholarships through the Mihaylo Foundation and the...

Rotary Club Announces “Eagle of Excellence” Community Service Awards Nominees

  Big Bear Lake, CA , April 17, 2012 -The Rotary Club of Big Bear Lake has announced the names of the five recipients of this year’s “Eagle of Excellence” Community Service Awards.  The dinner and awards ceremony, celebrating it’s fifteenth year, is dedicated to honoring members of the Big Bear community that exhibit a very high caliber of professionalism, enthusiasm, work ethic and commitment to service, not only in their vocational field, but also in how they demonstrate excellence in the personal giving of time, energy and influence on others within the Bear Valley community.  Since the Rotary Club began this program in 1998, over 74 individuals, mostly non-Rotarians, have been honored with the “Eagle of Excellence” award.  This year’s honorees include Roy Brownie, Ellen Conklin, Gail McCarthy, Sharon Rizzo and Julann Warren.  The ceremony and dinner will be held on Sunday, May 6th at the Northwood’s Resort beginning at 5pm.  The Rotary Club will also introduce its 2012 Rotary Scholarship winners that evening.  Attendance is by invitation only; however, if any member of the Big Bear community is interested in participating to support the 2012 Eagle of Excellence nominees, you may contact Liz Harris, event Chairperson, at (909) 744-2213 for further information. Big Bear Idol Competition Sends 11 Finalists to District Competition Finals

Big Bear, Ca, February 21, 2012, – Big Bear Idol took place this last Saturday, and high schoolers from throughout the Big Bear Valley competed for cash prizes in the Big Bear Lake Rotary Club sponsored event!  Nineteen contestants performed in one of three categories: Classical, Non-Classical, and Instrumental.  Those who received 1st place in their respective category received a $300 cash prize, second place finishers received $200, and third place finishers received $100.  In the Non-Classical category, Delaney Warren took first place, followed by Kylar Carody and Zackery Meyer who tied for second, and Jessica Brasher who finished third.  Jodi Cline took first place in the Classical division followed by Ariel Jade Moreno in second, and Megn Lona and Vantashia Wormsbecker tying for third.  In the Instrumental category Alicia Williams took first followed by Tawny Williams in second, and Dru Chilcoat in third.  All 11 finalists are invited to compete at the Rotary District competition finals at the University of Redlands in March, with a top prize of $1000 for the voice and instrumental...

Rotary Club Annual Golf Tournament June 15th

Big Bear Lake, CA, June 2, 2011, noon – The Rotary Club of Big Bear Lake will host its annual fundraising golf tournament and BBQ on Wednesday, June 15, 2011 at the Bear Mountain Golf Course. By participating in the event you can help the Rotary Club raise money for its valley-wide charities. The tournament will feature an 8:00am shotgun start and will include 18 holes. Both single players and teams are invited to sign up. Awards will be presented for Low Net and Low Gross Team Scores, Closest to the Pin, and Long Drive. The cost is $80 per player and includes 18 holes, a cart, and a BBQ lunch at the end of the tournament. At the luncheon there will be a host of drawings and raffles for donated prizes. The Rotary Golf tournament is an annual event which raises money for the club’s many Big Bear valley projects and scholarships. The local Rotary Club sponsors the valley’s fireworks extravaganza, Santa Visits Program, Bob Davies Dental Screening Project, $10,000 in scholarships for graduating senior high school students, and many other activities which benefit the residents of the Big Bear valley.
