Dental Screening Day Coming to Big Bear Elementary Schools

Big Bear, CA, February 19, 2015 – The Rotary Club of Big Bear Lake will conduct its annual dental screening program at all three local elementary schools on Wednesday, March 4. The program will be held from 8:00 am until noon at Big Bear Elementary, North Shore Elementary, and Baldwin Lane Elementary schools. All Kindergartners and 1st graders who have not previously attended public school, along with all 3rd and 5th graders are eligible to be screened. Parent permission and information slips have been sent home with students. The program was started in Big Bear by Dr. Bob Davies, a long time Rotarian and a prominent local dentist. Dr. Davies passed away in 2011, and the program is now named in his honor. This year, seven local dentists are donating their time to the program with Dr. Kristine Yoshida coordinating those participating. This free program provided by the Rotary Club of Big Bear Lake easily allows parents to comply with California state law requiring all new kindergarten or first graders to receive a dental screening during their first year of public school. For many students it will be their very first visit with a dentist, and the information derived from each dental screening will be passed along to...

Leave it to the Pros: All Personal Fireworks are Illegal in Big Bear

Big Bear Lake, CA, July 2, 2014 – The Big Bear Fire Department reminds everyone that all personal fireworks are prohibited in the Big Bear area, even the “Safe and Sane” products. It’s against the law to use any fireworks in a community where they aren’t permitted, and those convicted could be fined up to $50,000 and sent to jail for a year. Personal fireworks can be unpredictable, and they have resulted in severe injuries and numerous fires; if a fire results from fireworks, the violator could be responsible for damages. It can take hundreds of thousands of gallons of water to control a large wildfire–a strain on resources at any time, but especially during an ongoing drought and the peak water demand that comes with an expected 200,000 visitors. With so much at stake, anyone seeing personal fireworks being used is asked to call 9-1-1 immediately. Instead of risking fines and fires, enjoy the world class, professionally produced fireworks display over the lake after sundown today. Sponsored by the Rotary Club of Big Bear Lake, the 30-minute show can be seen from many vantage points and is consistently ranked one of the best in California. And KBHR provides music synchronized to the fireworks, so make sure to tune in to 93.3...
