SR 18 Paving Project Set to Begin September 9th

Big Bear, CA, Sept. 2, 2015 – The California Department of Transportation District 8 has awarded a $4.1 million project to Matich Corporation that will pave three major segments of State Route 18 between Talmadge Road (at Red Ant Hill) to the SR-138 junction in Crestline, CA. The segments are: Talmadge Road in the City of Big Bear Lake to SR-38 (at the Big Bear Dam); from just east of Lake View Point to just east of Snow Valley Resort; and from the SR-330 junction in Running Springs to the SR-138 junction in Crestline. The project will grind the road surface, overlay with hot asphalt mix and stripe the newly completed segments. Work is scheduled to begin September 9 and continue for eighteen weeks. There will be no work over the Labor Day holiday weekend. Work hours are 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. One-way traffic control will be in effect, expect delays or use an alternate route. Matich Corporation, who did the paving for the Village Revitalization Project, will pave as much as possible each day as they progress through the three segments. Advisory signs will be posted stating that the project is approaching. Access to SR-18 will be restricted until the hot asphalt has cooled sufficiently. Hours Changed for Highway 18 Paving Project

Big Bear, Ca June 22, 2011 5:00 pm – CalTrans has announced a change in the hours for the Highway 18 repaving project.  The project began on June 21 within the Big Bear Valley and is expected to finish in Apple Valley by the end of August.  During the project, delays of up to 20 minutes can be expected along Highway 18 between the hours of 9:00 am and 6:00 pm, Mondays through Fridays.  Motorists traveling the route are asked to watch for reduced speed signs, flagging, and workers on the roadway. Paving Repairs on Highway 18 May Cause Delays

Big Bear, Ca June 21, 2011 4:00 pm – A pavement repair project on State Route 18 going towards Lucerne Valley may affect commuters and other travelers on the highway between the hours of 6:00 am and 4:00 pm Monday through Friday CalTrans announced this morning.  This portion of the project began in the Big Bear Valley today and is expected to finish in Apple Valley by late August.  Highway 18 pavement repairs from the dam through Fawnskin have been completed.  Delays during this current phase of the project can be expected to be up to 20 minutes.  Motorists traveling the route are asked to watch for reduced speed signs and flagging, and to be particularly careful with workers in the roadway.  In the past 2 months, three CalTrans workers have been hit by vehicles on Southern California highways, and have died from their injuries.
