Elite Cheer Thanks Community

Big Bear Lake, CA, October 8, 2013 – The newest Lighthouse Project Affiliate is Big Bear Elite Cheer, which has begun their first year of training and competition led by Jamiee Smith. The program is designed to help children develop self discipline, teamwork, respect for authority and good sportsmanship, along with the basics of cheer leading. The organization just held a raffle fundraiser, and with the help of the community, they raised $5,411 to help pay for practice facility fees and competitions. The raffle winners were Tim Brigham, Ruth Manriquez, Linda Pawinski, Priscilla Guillen, and K. Hughes. Raffle Sponsors included Stater Bros, ARCO, Old Country Inn, Sonora Cantina and Butchers Block. Currently, 54 children are enrolled in Elite Cheer and divisions of children are separated by age. Relay For Life Team Operation Hope Fundraiser At Old Country Inn

Big Bear Lake, CA, July 20, 2012, 3:00pm – On Monday, July 23 starting at noon, the American Cancer Society Relay for Life Team “Operation Hope” will have a fundraising event at Old Country Inn. It’s a special spaghetti dinner for $5.99 with proceeds going to Relay for Life Team “Operation Hope”. The team will be having raffles and information on the Relay. Relay for Life mobilizes communities throughout the country to celebrate people who have battled cancer, to remember loved ones lost, and to provide participants with an opportunity to fight back against the disease. Relay for Life began in 1985 with one man who walked and ran around a track for 24 hours raising $27,000 for the American Cancer Society. This year, Relay for Life will take place in nearly 5,100 communities in the United States and 20 other countries. The event at Old Country Inn will raise money to support the Society’s mission of saving lives by helping people stay well, by helping people get well, and by finding cures and fighting back. Fundraiser for Local Snowboarder Drayden Gardner

Big Bear, CA, June 18, 2012, 8:00am – Local 12-year-old Drayden Gardner continues to reach new heights in the sport of snowboarding.  Drayden has been chosen as one of only two junior snowboarders invited to participate in the World Heli Challenge in Wanaka, New Zealand.  As a Young Gun in the Challenge, he will compete alongside the 30 main event snowboarding and skiing athletes this July 31st through August 16th.  Drayden’s snowboarding career so far includes a long list of accomplishments including 4th place in the USASA Nationals in Halfpipe, 8th place in the USASA Nationals in Slopestyle, 1st place in the Gatorade Free Flow and many, many more for 2012.  Drayden’s main goal is to compete in the most elite board sport contests world wide including all TTR ranked events, X-Games and US Olympics for snowboarding.  Already, he has competed in over 200 competitions in both snow and skate.  As a community, we can help send Drayden to New Zealand at a spaghetti dinner fundraiser at the Old Country Inn on Wednesday, June 20th beginning at 4pm to closing.  Dinner is $5.99 per plate with the option to purchase raffle tickets for prizes.
