Bike Riders Speak In Favor Of Skyline Trail

Big Bear, Ca, August 22, 2011, 1:00pm – On Saturday, August 20th the US Forest Service held a public meeting at the intersection of fire roads 2n10 and 2n06 to discuss the Skyline trail.  Skyline is a trail that has been proposed by the Big Bear Valley Trails Foundation that would go along the south ridge of the Big Bear Valley, allowing for an alternative to fire road 2n10 for hikers and bikers.  The public meeting was an opportunity for members of the public to address the forest service on the trail, and many people came forward stating how they feel unsafe riding on fire road 2n10 as many motorized vehicles drive the road.  Jack Bailey, owner of the bike shop Chains Required spoke up about how he rents many bikes to people who go up the chair lift and ride down 2n10, and that 4 bikes in the last year have come back un rideable because of an incident with cars, and that one person even had to go to the hospital because of an incident with a vehicle.  Other avid cyclists spoke up about the value of a single track trail that would span the ridgeline and how it would attract visitors from all over the US.  Forest Service Officials spoke about how they would incorporate some existing trails into the Skyline trail, and how they would...

Conquer The Bear & Kenda Cup Finals Bring Hundreds of People to Big Bear!

Big Bear, Ca, June 20, 2011, 3:00pm –  This past Sunday cyclists came from across California, Oregon, South Africa, Mexico and beyond to compete in the Kenda Cup Team Big Bear Mountain Bike Race Finals in Big Bear.  This event was also part two in the Conquer the Cub and Conquer the Bear series, part of Open Air Big Bear.  The event had a special element to it this year, incorporating a 50-mile marathon race, along with the standard 18 mile and 24 mile course loops.  The Conquer the Cub participants did the 18 mile loop, and the Conquer the Bear participants did the 24 mile loop, while the marathoners did two laps of the 24 mile loop, plus a little extra. Bear Valley Bikes Wins Rim Nordic Race Series

Big Bear, Ca, August 30, 2010, 4:00pm – This weekend marked the series finale for the Rim Nordic Mountain bike series.  Teams from Big Bear, California, and Las Vegas came together to compete in Super-D and Cross Country races.  Team Bear Valley Bikes came away with the top spot in both race categories, surpassing the competition in points, and team members.   Pro-rider, team captain, and owner of Bear Valley Bikes bike shop, Derek Hermon, was proud of his team, and what they all accomplished together.  “Bear Valley Bikes is a family,” said Hermon, “ we cant just do it with a few people, it takes all of us to win, and we all love what we do!”  Hermon won the Super-D overalls in the Pro Category, and Sean Donovan of team Cytomax/KHS won the pro overall in the cross-country division, with Romolo Forcino of team Chains Required coming in second.   Other series winners include Bear Valley Bikes team members: Dan Nielsen, Dean Swank, Karen Lundgren, Elle Williams, Casey Williams, Cameron Williams, Evan Williams, Ronda Warden, Connor McCutchon, Steven Fogt, Griffith Vertican, Michelle Russell, and Ana Dvorak.  Other winners include:  Bryan Taylor of Chains Required, David Stowell of Cal Coast Bicycles, Manuel Luna of Tri-a-bike, Mark Mazakas of Lake Arrowhead, Sabine Petersen of Mama Duck Racing, and Danika Bates of Rim of the World High School.  For more information about...
