Rim Nordic Series Finale Topped With Locals

Big Bear, Ca, August 22, 2011, 12:00pm – Pro Men Overall Series Winner Romolo Forcino The Rim Nordic Mountain Bike Series Finale took place this past weekend, with many locals taking the overall top spots.  The Rim Nordic series consists of four different cross-country and super d races that started in late June.  After a beautiful day of racing on Sunday August 21st, Romolo Forcino of team Chains Required took the series overall win for the pro men, and team Bear Valley Bikes took the team overall win.  Team Sho-Air took the 2nd place team spot followed by Team Chains Required, who took 3rd.  Local Pro Team Steven K Sports Pro Team took two of the top spots in the pro overall’s with Vincent Lombardi taking 2nd place, and Steve Kinney taking 5th overall.  Bear Valley Bikes owner Derek Hermon took 3rd place in the pro overall, and local Allan Laframboise of Don’s Bikes took 4th overall.  Local women were on the podium as well, with Ronda Warden, Alison Hyde, Louise Boyer, and Elle Williams winning their division overall for team Bear Valley Bikes, and Sarah Alvarado won her division overall for team Chains Required.  Overall, all the participants had big smiles on their faces, and thanked the Rim Nordic staff and volunteers for all their hard work and effort this season.  On September 17th and 18th, Rim Nordic...

Bear Valley Bikes Women’s Team Isn’t Afraid To Get Dirty

Big Bear, Ca, April 7, 2011, 8:00am – Bear Valley Bikes, the local bike shop and bike team that originally started in 1993 as Big Bear Bikes has gone through many changes over the years.  In 2000 current owner Derek Hermon took over the shop and the team, and this year has established Bear Valley Bike’s first ever stand alone Women’s Team.  “To get more women involved in cycling is our goal,” said Hermon, “Our aim is to both support our current female riders as well as introduce new members to the sport and to racing.”  The new Bear Valley Bike’s women’s team consists of 16 riders so far, including 10 year old Mnt. Bike National Champion Elle Williams, adventure racer Karen Lundgren, and runner Michelle Russell.  The team is for women of all levels, and beginners are always welcome.  Russell rides for the team, and is currently in second place in the Kenda Cup Series, in the women’s Cat 3 division ages 40-49. Russell has been riding bikes recreationally for years, however it was last year when her husband encouraged her to race that she first tried. “I came in dead last but had the best time ever,” said Russell. “I like that Bear Valley Bikes has encouraged all levels of women riders to participate in Mountain Bike Racing this season.  Meeting other like minded women who don’t...
