Maple Lane Closure Today for “Every 15 Minutes” Event

Big Bear City, CA, June 2, 2015 – The Big Bear Sheriff’s Station, California Highway Patrol, and Office of Traffic Safety has partnered with Big Bear High School to present “Every 15 Minutes” on Tuesday and Wednesday, June 2 and 3, 2015. This intense two-day program focuses on high school students, raising awareness about the reality and consequences of drinking and driving, and inspiring students to make informed, smart decisions as they prepare to celebrate prom and graduation. Today, participants will reenact an alcohol-related traffic collision on Maple Lane in front of Big Bear High School. As a result of this event, Maple Lane will be closed between Big Bear Boulevard (SR-38) and Baldwin Lane. The closure will start at 8:00 am and will continue until 12:00 pm. The community is urged to plan ahead and use alternate routes. The multi-casualty collision scenario will involve students from Big Bear High School and first responders from Big Bear Fire Department, California Highway Patrol, and the Big Bear Sheriff’s Station. Additionally, throughout the school day, the Grim Reaper will remove one student from class every 15 minutes and their obituary will be read, representing one more death from an alcohol related traffic collision. Paving Project Reaches Baldwin Lane at SR 38 Today

Big Bear, CA, August 6, 2014 – The Caltrans project on SR 38 is paving the section between Square Turn, at Lippy’s Market, and Baldwin Lane today. Hard Closure at Maple Lane on Monday Morning

Big Bear City, CA, August 2, 2014 – On Monday morning, the Caltrans paving project on Highway 38 reaches Maple Lane. Beginning at 8 am on Monday August 4th, you will not be able to turn up Maple from either direction. This will not affect morning bus runs or drop-offs to Big Bear High School, however after the 8 am closure, drivers and buses will have to use an alternate route to access BBHS, Chautauqua High School, and Baldwin Lane Elementary. As of now, this closure is expected to remain in effect through the afternoon, so all three schools will have to be accessed via Baldwin Lane from SR 38. Funding Approved For Maple Lane Project

Big Bear City, CA, March 7, 2013 – The California Transportation Commission has allocated $333 million in new funding to 91 projects that will improve the state’s transportation system. The allocations include $233 million from Proposition 1B, a transportation bond approved by voters in 2006. The remaining allocations ($100 million) came from assorted transportation accounts funded by state and federal money. Locally, $1.3 million was awarded to provide funds for a project in Sugarloaf on Maple Lane north of Baldwin Road to State Route 38.
