Mammoth now owns Big Bear Mountain Resorts

Big Bear Lake, CA. March 3, 2015 – In a recent letter sent to Snow Summit stockholders sale of Big Bear Mountain Resorts to Mammoth Mountain was closed on Friday, February 27th.  A momentous day for the Big Bear Valley but it was possibly overshadowed by the pending weekend snowstorms.  Snow Summit began life as a modest ski endeavor with a permit from the National Forest service in the early 50’s.  Snow making and thirst for winter activities enabled Snow Summit to grow along with the entire resort industry.  While many mom and pop ski areas in Southern California have come and gone, Snow Summit and Bear Mountain emerged as innovators and leaders in the industry.  Executives for Mammoth, CEO Rusty Gregory and Dave Linkins, previously expressed their excitement for this deal as it will bring their total skier day tally to over 2 million annual visitors.  This type resort consolidation, which is now common place, will  make them one of the biggest in North America.  In addition, CEO Rusty Gregory, commented on future resort development that “we come from a small community and are sensitive to wants and needs of a mountain resort community”.   Summit President, Dick Kun, in his farewell letter indicated that he was “deeply grateful for 65 years of support and that lasting memories will comfort, what for some will be difficult”.  And now with...

Mammoth Resorts to Acquire Bear Mountain Resorts

Big Bear, CA, Sept. 24, 2014 – Mammoth Mountain Ski Area, owner of both Mammoth and June Mountain, announced today that it has entered into an agreement to acquire Big Bear Mountain Resorts which includes both Bear Mountain and Snow Summit, for 38 million dollars. Closing is subject to certain conditions including shareholder approval. The combination of these four iconic California mountain resorts will create one of the nations largest ski companies with over 2 million visitors per year. Peak To Peak Started Their 5 Day Journey To Mammoth Today

Big Bear, Ca, October 5, 2011, 12:00pm – This morning over 40 cyclists took off from the Bear Mountain parking lot, and will make their way to Mammoth Lakes, Ca over the next five days.  Peak to Peak, as the event is called, is a fundraiser for the U.S. Adaptive Recreation Center, which allows children and adults with disabilities to face challenges and develop important skills through programs in the summer and winter months.  The five day journey will have participants going over two mountain ranges, for 335 miles of riding.  So far the cyclists have made it down past Lucerne Valley and are on their way to Barstow, where they will overnight tonight.  Tomorrows ride will be the longest, taking the riders through Kramer Junction and overnighting in Ridgecrest.  On Sunday, the group will arrive in Mammoth Lakes, California, and weather is expected to be in the high 50’s for their arrival.  The riders do have a support crew of vehicles that carry their personal belongings, and tents along the way, and also provide mechanical support and food.  Each rider raises $1500 for the Adaptive Recreation Center.  Local’s participating in the fundraiser include Gary Stuebe, Kathy Portie, and Michelle...
