Air Rescue 307 Finds Injured Hiker After Activation of Personal GPS Locator Device

Lake Arrowhead, CA – On Wednesday, March 8th, members of the Sheriff’s Department Emergency Operations Division received information regarding an injured hiker in the Pinnacles area of Lake Arrowhead. The Office of Emergency Services for the State of California received an activation from an In-Reach personal locator device. The activation included text messages, which said the victim, William Simpson, a 67 year old man from Santa Monica, had fallen while hiking and was suffering from injuries. Pilot Fire Evacuees Allowed to Return Home

Big Bear, CA, August 12, 2016 – Effective Friday, August 12, 2016, at 9:00 a.m., all evacuation orders and advisories for the mountain communities affected by the Pilot Fire have been lifted. Highway 173 will remain closed between Grass Valley Road and Rock Camp, and all previously closed forest roads shall be restricted to fire traffic to support ongoing suppression and rehabilitation operations. The fire has burned 8,115 acres and is at 80% containment. Residents returning to the evacuation zone are asked to exercise caution. Big Bear, CA, August 9, 2016 – The Pilot Fire, which started on Sunday, August 7, grew almost 2000 acres since yesterday. This morning, the fire is currently 6,298 acres with 6% containment. SR 18 Median Project Set To Begin

Big Bear, CA, April, 6, 2016 – The California Department of Transportation plans to begin work on April 11 to install a ‘thrie beam guardrail’ for the State Route 18 Median Project between Sierra Way, at the base of the mountain, and State Route 138, also known as Crestline Cutoff. The project was put into motion when a higher than average number of cross over collisions occurred on this section of the route.
