Body of Karen Dalman positively identified

Baldwin Lake, CA, May 22, 2013 – Coroner investigators confirmed today that  the deceased woman found May 18 near Crystal Mountain was indeed missing person Karen Dalman.  The identity was confirmed through fingerprints. On May 16 at 7:00 a.m., Erwin Lake resident Bruce Jackson reported Karen Dalman missing, told investigators the two had been hiking together on May 14, but had become separated while searching for his runaway dog. Jackson reported being lost himself for two days. The body was recovered from a natural drainage approximately one mile from where the search began.  An autopsy to determine the cause of death is still forthcoming....

Body Found Near Search Area for Karen Dalman

Big Bear, CA, May 18, 2013 – In a press release issued this afternoon by the Public Affair’s Department of the San Bernardino Sheriff’s Department, on Thursday, May 16, 2013 at 7:00 a.m. Karen Dalman was reported missing by a friend. On Tuesday, May 14, 2013, Karen and her friend had gone to the area of Crystal Mountain for a day hike and became separated.  After two days of walking her friend found his way back to his car and immediately reported Karen missing.  A search and rescue operation began and has been ongoing since Thursday morning.  Today, a team of ground search members located the body of a deceased female in the area approximately one mile from where the search began.  It is in a remote area, at mid-elevation in a natural drainage.  An investigation will be conducted by Big Bear Station personnel, along with the Coroner who will conduct an autopsy to confirm her identity and the cause of death.      ...

Dog in missing person’s case may have been found

Baldwin Lake, CA, May 17, 2013 – Law enforcement officers are bringing Bruce Jackson to the Cactus Flats area to identify a dog matching the description of the runaway dog that caused him to be separated from another hiker. Jackson reported yesterday to the Big Bear Sheriff’s Station that he had been separated from his friend, 59-year-old Karen Dalman, after his dog got away from them during a hike. Dalman was last seen at approximately 10:00 a.m. on May 14 in the Crystal Mountain area of Baldwin Lake, near Forestry Road 2N02 for a day-hike. Cactus Flats off of Highway 18 is several miles from the area where the pair was separated. Missing Person: Karen Dalman

Big Bear, CA, May 16, 2013 – The Big Bear Sheriff’s Station is requesting the public’s assistance for missing person Karen Dalman. Dalman was last seen at approximately 10:00 am, Tuesday, May 14th.  Early on Tuesday morning, Dalman and a friend, Bruce Jackson, drove to the area of Crystal Mountain near the Eye of God on 2N02 in Baldwin Lake for a day-hike with Jackson’s dog, described as a white pit-bull with dark stripes and a white and black face. Dalman and Jackson were separated after the dog got away from the hikers.  Shortly before 7:00 am today, Jackson reported Dalman missing, stating he had been lost in the area since Tuesday after not being able to find the dog.  Jackson reported that he had made his way back to the vehicle this morning and returned to his home in Erwin Lake, but was unable to locate Dalman. Jackson was treated for dehydration at his residence.  Deputies of the Big Bear Sheriff’s Station responded to the call of the missing person and began conducting a search of the surrounding area.  Since 9:00am this morning, search efforts have expanded to consist of a command post with 3 teams of Search & Rescue members on foot, 2 teams of Posse members on horseback, and Sheriff’s aviation conducting aerial searches.  Karen Dalman is described as a 59-year-old white female adult, 5’2” tall,...
