Film Festival Promotes Young Adventure With Jordan Romero

Big Bear Lake, CA, August 1, 2011, 8:00am – The Big Bear Lake International Film Festival is coming up in September, and this year’s Sidebar Showcase will promote young adventure, featuring Big Bear’s own Jordan Romero, with Zac and Abby Sunderland presenting filmmaker awards. Fourteen-year-old Jordan Romero, a native of Big Bear Lake is on board to encourage fellow young people. Jordan holds a world record for the youngest person ever to stand on the summit of Mt. Everest. In an effort to share his experience with other youth, Jordan wrote “The Boy Who Conquered Mount Everest: The Jordan Romero Story” with Katherine Blanc which he’ll be autographing at the Festival. He also created the 7 Summits of Big Bear Youth Challenge, where kids are encouraged to get outdoors and conquer local peaks. Zac Sunderland was raised on a boat in Marina del Rey. He set two world records: one as the youngest ever to sail around the world, and the other as the first under the age of 18. Zac now speaks around the nation encouraging youth to have their own adventures, and will present his documentary, “Intrepid” at the Festival. Zac’s younger sister, Abby Sunderland also set sail around the world, but her 40-foot sailboat was completely disabled after being hit by a massive rogue wave. Team Jordan Starts 50 States Tour, & Supports No Barriers

Big Bear, Ca, July 5, 2011, 8:00am – Team Jordan, comprised of 14-year-old Jordan Romero, his father Paul and step mom Karen Lundgren, recently started their B.I.G Tour, which stands for Butt In Gear.  The team who has been climbing the highest peaks in the world since Jordan was 10 years old, and who summitted Mount Everest last spring, kicked off their 50 states tour, in which they will climb the highest peaks in all of the 50 states.  The Butt In Gear Tour as they call it is supposed to encourage kids, and adults to get off the couch and get outside and climb, paddle, bike, run, or anything that involves being active!  The team traveled to the east coast where they checked off the highest peaks in Delaware, New Jersey, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, and Connecticut.  The team has already climbed the highest peaks in California, Arizona, Washington, and Denali in Alaska, which is also one of the peaks the team climbed in the quest for the seven summits.  After visiting the east coast, the team traveled to Winterpark, Colorado for the No Barriers Summit.  No Barriers is an organization that promotes innovative ideas, approaches, and assistive technologies, which help people with disabilities push through their own personal barriers to live full and active lives.  Karen, Paul and Jordan went on a hike with summit attendees, some of...

Conquer Seven Summits in Big Bear

Big Bear, Ca May 21, 2011 12:00 pm – Local teenager Jordan Romero is close to completing the seven highest peaks in the world.  He hopes to inspire others to find their personal Everest, to challenge themselves to reach new heights.  The Seven Summits of Big Bear is Southern California’s equivalent.  With many of Big Bear’s mountains the highest in the area, the local Seven Summits challenges hikers and fitness enthusiasts to reach the top of each of these peaks.  Hikers can complete all or some of the peaks on their own, or join guided group events scheduled between Memorial and Labor Day Weekends.  The group hikes begin with lowest of the seven, Gray’s Peak at 7,920’ near the west end of the lake, next Saturday.  The series finishes up with an all-day expedition to reach the top of San Gorgonio, the highest peak in Southern California at 11, 502’.  “The Seven Summits of Big Bear gives participants an opportunity to set attainable fitness goals, and they get to see some of the most remarkable panoramic views ever!” says Heather Devito, lead guide and owner of Mountain Fitness Center.  The group hikes are free.  For dates and information about each of the Seven Summits hikes, go to sevensummitsofbigbear.org. Team Jordan Celebrates 1 Year Anniversary of Mount Everest Summit

  KBHR’s Angela with Jordan, Karen and Paul  Big Bear, Ca, May 20, 2011, 8:00am – Last year during the months of April and May, Big Bear residents watched the progress that Team Jordan made while they made the approach to the summit of Mount Everest.  Team Jordan comprised of then 13-year-old Jordan Romero, Paul Romero and Karen Lundgren have been climbing the highest mountains in the world since Jordan was 9 years old.  Last year on May 22nd, team Jordan broke two world records when they summited the highest mountain in the world.  Jordan became the youngest person ever to climb Mount Everest and the entire team became the first family to summit together.  To celebrate, Team Jordan invited friends, family and supporters to join them for their one-year anniversary celebration on Sunday May 22nd at Azteca Grill from 3pm to 6pm.  There will be a no host taco and drink bar, pictures, stories and laughs to share.  For more information on Team Jordan and their next big climb go to JordanRomero.com. Team Jordan Presents Warren Millers Wintervention

Big Bear, Ca, December 10, 2010, 4:00pm – Saturday night see the winter movie of the year.  Warren Millers Wintervention will be playing at the Performing Arts Center at 8:00pm, and will get you in the mood for skiing and snowboarding.  Team Jordan is presenting this years Warren Miller movie, and invite you to come join them for a night of amazing ski and snowboard footage.  This is the 61st annual Warren Miller movie, and Team Jordan is excited to present it.  Team Jordan, which consists of 14 year old Jordan Romero, Paul Romero and Karen Lundgren, have been climbing mountains for many years, and are in the final stretch of Jordan’s quest to be the youngest person to climb the Seven Summits.  The team just returned this past summer from their climb up Mount Everest, and are now preparing for their final summit, Mount Vincent in Antarctica.  Proceeds from the movie screening will go toward Team Jordan’s Mount Vincent climb.  Advanced tickets can be purchased at Mountain Fitness Center, located behind K-mart on Fox Farm road for $10.00, or can be purchased at the door for $15.00.  Doors open at 7:00pm, with Warren Millers Wintervention starting at 8:00pm.  Books, shirts and other goodies will be given away at the event.  For more information log onto...
