“Bryan Fire” Highway 38 Reopened

UPDATE:   It has been reported that the Bryant fire was suspicious in nature and a person was apprehended in connection to the fire.  Use caution while traveling in the area as fire fighters and equipment may be working alongside the highway. Overturned Truck on Highway 38 Forces Full Closure

Angelus Oaks, CA June 6, 2015 – Shortly after 7:00 a.m. this morning, a big rig carrying lumber overturned on Highway 38 approximately 5 miles east of Angelus Oaks. Revised Highway Closure Schedule For Wed. Oct. 15

  Big Bear, CA, October 14, 2014 – On Wednesday October 15, Caltrans will be installing a 100 ft. long pedestrian and horse bridge across State Highway 38. The bridge is being installed to safely connect the two halves of Camp Tahquitz, which is bisected by Highway 38, and generates over 20,000 pedestrian crossings per year. Highway 38 will be closed beginning at 8:30 am and reopened by 3:30 pm. There will be a detour available around the installation site on Jenks Lake Road, however SR 18 (the front grade) will be completely open while the bridge installation takes place. Full Closure of Highway 18 Coming Next Week

Big Bear, CA, October 3, 2014 – Caltrans announced a full road closure of SR-18 between the Big Bear Dam and Snow Valley beginning on Monday October 6 and running through Thursday October 30. The closures will take place Monday through Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. There will be no Friday closures. Caltrans needs the time for cleaning tree cut areas and removing slide material from previous weather events. Alternate routes are SR-18 to Lucerne and SR-38 to Mentone. Road Work Causes Traffic Delays in East Valley

Big Bear, CA, July 24, 2014 – The State Route 38 pavement rehabilitation project between Forest Falls and Greenway Drive that has been going on since May, has finally made it to Big Bear. Yesterday, Caltrans and All American Asphalt began working their way downhill from Hatchery Road to State Lane. Crews are working in one to one and a half mile segments and today are working between State Lane and Square Turn. On Friday they’ll be paving the section between Square Turn and Greenway. Work hours are from 8 am to 5 pm and there will be one way traffic during those times and you may not cross the freshly rolled asphalt during the ‘rest period’ which lasts for 90 minutes. On Monday July 28, they turn around and start working their way back in the other direction starting at Greenway. This work will cause delays if you are driving in the east valley.
